UNIT 9 A Trip to Taiwan(II)

UNIT 9 A Trip to Taiwan(II)

Dear Susan,
March 10, 07
It’s nice to hear from you and I am so glad that you are visiting Taiwan next month. Gee! How many years haven’t we met each other? Ten years, right?
There is definitely a lot to see and to do in Taipei. Why not spend 5 days in Taipei? After you arrive in Taiwan, you can take rest and walk around near the Taipei Train Station district on the first day. Take the MRT to Ximendin(西門町), which is only one stop from Taipei Train Station. It used to be the most popular area for teenagers. You will see a lot of shops sell gadgets and fashionable wear. There are quite a few movie theaters around that area, too. As you know, Taiwan is also famous for snacks so you will see vendors sell snacks everywhere. Don’t forget to taste beef noodle. It is a representative gourmet unique to Taipei.
On the second day, you can take the MRT to the terminal station—Tamshui. If the weather is fine, stroll along the river and shop around. There are some specialty shops. Then take the bus and visit Fort San Domingo(紅毛城). It is one of the most popular scenic spots for tourists. It is a castle-like fort and a first-class historical site. After that, take a ferry to Bali(八里). It is on the opposite of Tamshui. The Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology(十三行博物館) is a must-see place in Bali.
There are also a few tourist attractions in the Taipei suburbs, like Chiufen(九份), or Yangming Mountain. Take a one-day trip to each of these places. Or you can imply take the MRT and visit some museums, like Nation Palace Museum(故宮), or Taipei Fine Arts Museum(台北市立美術館), etc.
It’s getting late here. I will let you know more details about Hualian and Kaohsiung in my next letter, OK?
Keep in touch!

Love,
Tiffany
